This overview of the three parks in the Laurel Hill Complex is your quick reference to the main attractions at each of the parks.

Kooser State Park

Camping:
35 pet-friendly sites *
9 cabins (one accessible)
* Kooser Campground is undergoing an rehabilitation project in 2008 and 2009.  For 2009, 12 sites are open.  All campsites will be open for the 2010 season.  Please check with the park office or reservation center for details.

Hiking:
Kincora Trail

Cross-country skiing:
Five-mile groomed loop trail

Swimming:
Kooser Beach (350-foot open-swim beach)

Picnicking:
370 picnic tables
Mighty Oak Pavilion with electricity

Hunting and fishing:
Kooser Lake (trout, bass, bluegill)
No hunting permitted in the park

 

Laurel Hill State Park

Camping:
262 sites (many with electricity, three accessible sites)
8 cottages (all accessible)
Organized group tenting:  three sites with 40-person capacity each
Organized group camps:  five camps that sleep 124-150 people
Laurel Hill Lodge:  sleeps 14

Hiking:
12 miles of trails of varying difficulty

Swimming:
Laurel Hill Beach (1200-foot open-swim, accessible beach)

Picnicking:
Over 500 picnic tables
Three picnic areas, each with different attractions
Five pavilions (all have electricity)

Hunting and fishing:
Laurel Hill Lake (boating permitted--electric motors only)
Bass, trout, catfish, sucker, bluegill, perch, crappie, sunfish, pike
2100 acres open to hunting in season

Laurel Ridge State Park

Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail:
70-mile trail from Ohiopyle to Seward (near Johnstown)
Eight shelter areas; overnight registration is mandatory

Hunting:
Permitted in certain areas.

Snowmobiling:
A trail system of over 70 miles
Covers both state park and state forest lands
Snowmobiles not permitted on the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail

Cross-country skiing:
35 miles of trails available

Also, there is a 20-mile ski touring concession, operated by Riversport, with the involvement of the
Pennsylvania Cross-Country Skiers' Association.. This area is located near the PA 653 parking area.
